Character Profile

At the beginning of this tragedy, Macbeth was a loyal subject to the King and was the leader of the army. He was brave and courageous as he fought against the Norwegians for his King. His best friend, Banquo, was walking with him past the heath where they met the witches. As he was told by the witches that he will be King and that he was going to be Lord of Cawdor now, he sent a note to Lady Macbeth.

After killing the King, Macbeth felt guilty about this tragic event he had committed. He was very weak-minded as he was persuaded by Lady Macbeth to kill his cousin, King Duncan. Lady Macbeth was very ambitious, but Macbeth, Lord of Cawdor was not. He let his horrible wife lead him to murder.

Once Macbeth saw Banquo’s ghost, his feelings were unpredictable. Not only did Lady Macbeth see Macbeth glare at an empty chair, but the full table looked at him. Lady Macbeth said that he was ill as an excuse and sent everybody home, but it was so he could not give it away.

After seeing the woods move, he got very nervous. He remembered the witches prophecy, “you will only be defeated when the Birnam woods start moving towards Dunsinune Hill.
